Passion For God
by David Marquard
I have a t-shirt that was given to me with a saying, “Passion is the DNA of life.” Passion, hunger, fervency, and diligence are all similar and needed for a good relationship with God. It is human nature in any relationship that passion wanes, yet God is a God who wants a fervent relationship with us. Revelation warns us against being “lukewarm” (Revelation 3:16). Paul tells us to not be lagging in diligence but rather fervent in spirit, serving the Lord (Romans 12:11), and God tells us through Jeremiah that we will find Him when we search for Him with ALL our heart (Jeremiah 29:13).
These warnings and encouragements are found throughout the Scriptures. Just as we would not want a “lukewarm” relationship with our spouse, neither does God want a “lukewarm” relationship with us. Our God is an amazing God. His desire for us is that we might discover His wonder and grandeur, that He might show us great love and mercies, and yet all of that is wrapped up in our desire to know Him better. We must be a people that “hunger and thirst” for righteous, a people that are fully committed to God and His Kingdom, and a people that are willing to fight complacency and passionately pursue our amazing God. God is ALWAYS ready and willing to give us forgiveness, grace, and love. Let us be a people that unashamedly pursue Him, casting aside all desire for this world and embracing with passion our God and Father and His Son and our Savior, Jesus the Christ. That would be a decision you would NEVER regret!!
