From Pastor Allen
There is a popular movie series that came out of Hollywood in recent years called “Fast And Furious.” All I know about the series is that it is about fast cars on public highways. We are all on a journey on the highway of life and many times we fail to consider the importance of this journey. When you drive your car down the road you can’t shut your eyes, floor the gas, and yell, “party!”
Just as you must respect the local highways, life’s highway requires the greatest attention! It involves your Life. Proverbs 16:17 says, “The highway of the upright is to depart from evil; he who keeps his way preserves his soul.” Life is not a party, it is not a beach, life is a highway from the womb to the grave.
On the highway of life we need to heed the signs. One sign you must heed is the STOP sign. In the Bible, “Selah” is mentioned over 70 times. It means to stop and listen. Take a pause in life today and consider the highway to eternity. Just stop and think!
On the highway of life one thing you will run into is obstacles! The obstacles or hills will be when you struggle the most in your journey. There is also a point in the highway which has been called “fool”s hill”. Many of us in our youth struggled at this point. It’s at this point that instead of dealing with life in a rational way people take the easy route. Doing their own thing and rationalize God or forget about God altogether. It’s at this section of the highway that many people lose their way and jeopardize their own soul. Ecclesiastes 11:3 tells us, “… if a tree falls to the south or the north, in the place where the tree falls, there it shall lie.” You only get one journey on the highway of life, travel wisely.
There are sections of highway where caution is an absolute must. These are dangerous curves. It will be at these points where it is a life or death situation. Satan, life’s thief, will throw some major curves at you. John 10:10 says “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. The bible say in John 8:44 that, “he (Satan) is a liar and the father of it.” If you listen to the thinking of the world you are listening to the lies of Satan! Satan has one plan, to get you to live life too Fast and too Furious so he can steal, kill, and destroy!
You can search the whole world over just living Fast and Furious trying to find satisfaction, but there is only one who satisfies. Only Jesus can satisfy your soul, and there is only ONE WAY to heaven. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life…” (John 14:6) There is only ONE WAY to find happiness. There is only ONE WAY to find peace. There is only ONE WAY to find life. Going Fast and Furious you will see many different and attractive things, but there is only ONE WAY that leads to life!
This is a sign that you see on the road all the time especially on roads with heavy traffic. NO U TURNS. It simply means no turning and going back the other way. Satan never wants to give up his territory. He will bring back old temptations, unhealthy relationships, former addictions. We have a tendency to want to hold on to things God wants us to let go of. “Jesus said to him, ‘No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.’” (Luke 9:62) When living too Fast and too Furious you feel like you missed something back there, but just turn your eyes upon Jesus and He will let you know you haven’t missed anything. You have more to gain going forward than going backwards.
When you see a NO PARKING sign it means keep going, you can’t stop here. God has covered this world with this sign for every child of God. This world is not our home. Eventually you will have to leave everything we ever accumulated on this world behind. There is no thrill worth parking for here. Many things in this Fast and Furious world catches our eye. These things become gods in our life. We have more affection and attraction for them than Jesus! To serve Jesus effectively you’ve got to lay down your gods!
Finally, when you see a YIELD sign it means to give someone else the right of way. We were created by God and for His pleasure. Satan came and laid claim to our lives by deception. The world was chained to the curse of SIN! But Jesus came to die and set us free from sin’s curse. “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)
God is a gentleman, He will never force himself on anyone. He gently knocks at every person’s heart, you must yield to God and give him the right of way in your life.
